Syma X14 Quadcopter Review

The Syma X14 Quadcopter is a reasonably priced unit that is suited for both beginners and experienced multi-rotor flyers. This small aircraft has two flying modes and is designed with a 3-way precision controller. The Syma X14’s flight controller system has an adjustable gyro sensitivity which allows for a very stable flight like Syma X14.

Design

The Syma X14 is a lightweight quadcopter weighing less than 5 lbs and measuring at about 14 inches (diagonal measurement including the blades). This aircraft is built with plastic body cover.

The unit comes with a rechargeable battery, a plug-in USB Charger, the transmitter or controller and a spare set of rotors or propellers.

This quadcopter runs on rechargeable lithium polymer (LiPo) and 4 AA batteries for the transmitter.

Performance

The unit may be small but it is also capable of being flown outdoors. The Syma X14 has two modes; indoor and outdoor flying. These two modes make the unit suitable for the beginners and the advanced fliers.

It is highly recommended that those who have just started flying to use the indoor flight mode while the more experienced flyers can use the outdoor flying mode. The outdoor mode allows the aircraft to fly very fast and requires quick maneuvering on the part of the flyer.

The Syma X14 boasts of the 3-axis flight control system that has adjustable gyro sensitivity. Users should place the unit in a level surface after the batteries have been inserted so that the gyros and other equipments can calibrate properly just like most quadcopters in the market.

This quadcopter’s radio frequency is 2.4 GHz which in turn has a controlling distance of about 40 meters. It also has a flip capacity as users can turn this aircraft in 360 degree angle.

Flyers who have tried this aircraft said that this unit can be flown up to 100 to 200 feet.

The Syma X14 however flies poorly under strong wind conditions (5 MPH wind conditions).

Batteries

This quadcopter comes with removable rechargeable LiPo battery. The unit can fly six to eight minutes of straight flying on a single charge. Charging time is about 40 minutes.

But users can also buy other batteries that have longer battery life (about 10 minutes of straight flying) as an upgrade or as spare batteries.

Ease of Use

The Syma X14 is ready for flying as users no longer need to purchase other parts. Flyers simply need to place the batteries in the transmitter and charge the batteries to fly.

The unit also comes with replacement blades and changing these blades is easy. Flyers only need to use a small screwdriver to change blades and use clockwise and counterclockwise screwing motions.

Some users, however, have complained that the manual that came with the product is not easy to understand.

“Really bad instructions for things like switching modes.”—Amazon buyer comment.

Durability

The Syma X14 is very durable and can last many crashes like what the majority of users have commented.

“We have crashed this endless times, landed in the tallest of trees, got tangled in branches, my garden is now littered with long poles made out of bamboo and pool cleaners to knock this out of 12 meter high trees and still it goes on flying.”—Amazon buyer comment
